WHAT IS QIGONG?



The term “qigong” is a combination of two words: "qi," which means “subtle breath” or “vital energy,” and "gong," which translates to “skill cultivated through steady practice.” Together, the words describe an age-old TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) practice that harnesses the power of breath, movement, and intention to create health and balance within the body.


Qigong opens the flow of energy in meridians/energy channels used in acupuncture and Chinese medicine. It enhances our ability to feel the Life Force (Qi) underlying the physical world and to deepen our communication with it. A mind-body-heart practice that improves mental and physical health by integrating posture, movement, breathing technique, self-massage, sound, and focused intent.

YANG STYLE 32 FORMS



The 32-step Tai Chi straight sword form, Taijijian is a Yang-style routine created in 1957 by Master Li Tianji.



The sequence is officially divided into four sections & extends traditional empty-hand Tai Chi into a dynamic moving meditation that enhances physical coordination, balance, and mental focus. The sword form is beautiful to look at, and just like any other Tai chi or Qigong movement, the movements require dexterity, balance and precision to be flawless while appearing effortless to the observer.


Our Taijijian series of 4 workshops will cover Tai chi sword fundamentals, drills, techniques, step by step mechanics, frequently asked questions, pro-prioception, common mistakes and mastery of the 32 forms. Each workshop (4 classes over a month) will cover 8 forms of the 32 along with all of the above. Please see the detailed syllabus for each workshop below.


Tai Chi sword (Jian) blends the internal mindfulness of traditional Tai Chi with the crisp, elegant extension of a martial arts. Practicing with the blade transforms your form & posture, acting as a physical extension of your internal energy (Qi) and cultivating total concentration to balance. Aparna has been a dedicated practitioner of traditional Tai Chi Swordplay since 2002. Over the past two decades, she has immersed herself in the flowing graceful precision of the 32-form Yang Style Tai Chi Sword, as well as the dynamic energetic power of the 23-form Chen Style Broadsword. For Aparna these arts are more than just movements —they are a vital part of a daily deep healing focused on mindfulness, harmony, and discipline.


She continues to refine her own swordplay through daily practice centered on fluid movement, strength, and inner peace. She shares her passion for the inner healing arts by leading classes, workshops, teacher trainings, and retreats. Her offerings integrate Yoga, Qigong, Tai Chi, and Vipassana meditation — all central to her own lifelong pursuit of balance and well-being.
